2019-2020 WCWA member institutions announced
The Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) has announced a list of 26 active member institutions for the 2019-20 season.
The WCWA organization has acted as a multi-divisional governing body for collegiate women’s wrestling since 2008.
As a nonprofit organization the WCWA continues to host an annual national championship, provide guidelines for recruiting, eligibility and governing bylaws in support of the structure and opportunity for women to wrestle in college.
The WCWA has positively impacted the lives of students for years. In fact, the very first article published on this website was A Tribute to the Evolution of the WCWA National Tournament, in February 2019.
Members are eligible to compete at the 2020 WCWA National Championships, hosted by Life University, in Marietta Georgia, February 7-8.
It’s not clear what role the WCWA will have in the future as the sport develops within the NAIA and NCAA, but this years WCWA has strong, championship, competitors both individually and as teams.
The newly released member count includes 11 NCAA programs, 10 NAIA programs and 5 junior college programs. That includes 5 first year programs, and 1 program beginning in 2020.
Individual champions at the WCWA National Championships qualify to compete in the Olympic Team Trials in April, making membership an attractive draw for programs hoping to provide their athletes all possible options to qualify.
