Abby Nette on transferring to Campbellsville University: “I needed change”
CAMPBELLSVILLE, K.Y. – – Defending WCWA national champion and U23 World Team member Abby Nette transferred from Emmanuel College to Campbellsville University.
Abby said, “Kristie and Link have been in my corner since the beginning of my college career . . . Leaving them was extremely hard, but I needed a change.”
She said there were a mix of things that left her unhappy. “I figured if I could have success being unhappy, I wonder what kind of success I could have where I was happy. Every year I continue to grow mentally so right now I’m just enjoying all my journeys in life.”
Emmanuel Coach Link Davis said, “Abby is a very talented young lady and wrestler. Our Lion Family wishes her the best of luck.”
When asked about why Campbellsville, Abby said: “Being in a positive environment plays an important role in order to be successful. I know a few people who attended and attend Campbellsville and I honestly did not hear one bad comment about it. Spiritually, to help my faith grow and for me to grow as a person, I felt as though Campbellsville was a great choice. The success they have had in the past with wrestling was just the cherry on top.”
Campbellsville head women’s wrestling Coach Lee Miracle stated, “We are obviously very lucky to have someone like Abby sign with us at the last minute. It is extremely rare to pick up a defending national champion who is also a World Team member. She is expected to make an immediate impact on the team with her work ethic and leadership. As a coaching staff, we are constantly striving to create and cultivate an environment for these high-level athletes to succeed in. Our room has always been one of the toughest in the country, if not the world. Abby, just made us that much tougher.”
Abby was the 2019 WCWA national champion at 130-pounds, moving up from third in 2018. She has started her senior year and is working toward a degree as a Fitness and Wellness Specialist.
Campbellsville placed 6th as a team at the WCWA National Championships and 4th at the NAIA National Invitational during the 2018-19 season. The Lady Tigers took home the team title at the WCWA National Championships in 2018. Without a doubt, they’re working to secure a position as a team title contender in 2020.
