Five Events to Follow in March

The first few days of March have already been busy. The Matteo Pellicone is happening right now (live on FloWrestling) and we (Transition Wrestling) were on the Life University campus with senior level athletes Alisha Howk and Precious Bell for a mini training camp and exhibition matches. The matches were streamed live and are posted on YouTube, here. Below are five major events to follow this month.

1 – March 6
The National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships is this Saturday at Tiffin University. The NCWWC includes NCAA schools sponsoring women’s wrestling and is the NCAA-specific college championship as part of the steps for the NCAA to award women’s wrestling championship status. Participants at this year’s event were determined at four regional qualifiers across the country, which allowed four wrestlers at each weight to advance. This is the first postseason event in women’s wrestling with regional qualifiers in place to determine the brackets. Our home page for NCWWC content is, here.

2 – March 12-13
The NAIA National Invitational is next weekend in Jamestown, North Dakota. The Invitational was canceled in 2020 with teams on site, so these wrestlers are hungry for competition. Fans should anticipate surprise performances at both the NCAA and NAIA championships. Without the regular individual tournaments this season, unknown wrestlers may outperform expectations and upend the rankings. A list of qualifiers by weight is available here. Our home page is under construction and will be live soon.

3 – March 17 (card March 17; camp March 14-18)
Transition Wrestling is sponsoring a women’s wrestling card on March 17th with Victory School of Wrestling. There will be a training camp that coincides with the card from March 14-18 that is open to wrestlers from middle school to the senior level. Matchups on the card will feature each of those levels, and will be streamed live on YouTube. The camp and card will take place in River Falls, Wisconsin. Camp details are available, here. If you are interested in participating in the camp and card combo, or just the camp or card, send us an email. More information will be posted soon.

4 – March 25-28
USA Wrestling’s Folkstyle Nationals and the new High School Recruiting Showcase are huge events for high school kids this spring. With such a limited season, college coaches will have a chance to scout for potential academic and athletic prospects. Qualifiers for the showcase include all past and current state champions (from officially sanctioned and unofficial sanctioned states) and those that place in the top five at one of the eight qualifying tournaments that begin next weekend. What makes this even better for the girl wrestlers is that the showcase is freestyle—the style women wrestle in college. Both events will take place in Coralville, Iowa, March 24-28. Information on Folkstyle Nationals and the HS Recruiting Showcase can be found online at USAW Events

5 – March 26-27
USA Wrestling announced earlier this week that the Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier will be held on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University, March 25-27. The top two place finisher in the event per weight will qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Registration and information for the event is listed, here.

Of course, as March wraps up, the wrestling world rolls right into the U.S. Olympic Team Trials April 2-3 in Fort Worth, Texas. Champions at the NCWWC, NAIA National Invitational and the top two wrestlers at the Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier will earn final bids to the trials.
