The University of Jamestown women’s wrestling team won the KCAC Championships for a third consecutive season. The Jimmies, ranked No. 6 overall in the NAIA, racked up 208.5 points, Midland scored 173 and York 114.5.

Jamestown had seven champions and went undisputed from 109-136, starting with Rayana Sahagun. Sahagun, a freshman from Michigan, is ranked No. 2 overall in the NAIA. Earlier this month she won the Grand View Open. Josie Bartishofski won at 116, Arianna Maruffo at 123, Alexandra Baudhuin at 130 and Luisita Jara at 136. Sierra Talmadge won at 170 pounds and Kelly Lacost at 191.

Midland’s Esther Walker won the 101 pound bracket with two technical superiorities and a fall. Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp–the overall No. 1 ranked wrestler at 143 pounds–interrupted Jamestown’s win streak and Mahea Lewis won at 155 pounds.

Shauna Kemp, the only female coach in the NAIA to win three conference championships, was named KCAC Coach of the Year alongside Midland Head Coach Daviaire Dickerson.

The KCAC began sponsoring women’s wrestling during the 2017-18 season and the only other team to win the championships was Missouri Valley College in 2018. The Vikings are now part of the HAART conference.

NAIA programs compete next at the National Invitational, March 12-13, in Jamestown.
