Siena Heights University: the fifth new program announced in September
ADRIAN, M.I. – – Dare we speculate the month ends with just five new women’s wrestling programs? Sienna Heights University Interim Athletic Director Sue Syljebeck has announced that SHU is reviving their men’s wrestling after a 32-year break and adding women’s wrestling in 2021.
Syljebeck stated, “The addition of wrestling will be great for the university as well as the region as the sport has a great tradition in Lenawee County. This will propel the program at SHU to a tradition of long-term student success.” A national search for a head coach is underway.
SHU is Michigan’s third program to offer women’s wrestling, but the first NAIA member institution within the state. Michigan has not yet sanctioned girls wrestling.
The Saints will be located just ten minutes down the road from Adrian College and less than two hours from Davenport University, which has plans to start a women’s program in 2020.
