Team Mensah-Stock
This is one of six team previews for the Captains’ Cup, a women’s freestyle dual competition presented by Titan Mercury WC, USA Wrestling and Flowrestling.
Team: Mensah-Stock
Coach: Afsoon Johnston, first U.S. medalist in women’s freestyle wrestling.
Pool B: Team Mensah-Stock wrestles on Saturday vs Team Hildebrandt at 6pm CT and Team Francis at 8pm CT.
Tamyra Mensah-Stock qualified the U.S. 68 kg weight class for the Olympic Games by winning the Senior World Championships in 2019. Since the start of 2021, she defeated five-time World Champion Adeline Gray and won gold at the Henri Deglane Grand Prix in France.
Tamyra drafted Dymond Guilford (76 kg) as the first pick overall in the snake-style draft last month. The very next week Guilford defeated Victoria Francis on the Pitt WC card, and Guilford has wins over Bell and Kelly this season. At 50 kg, TMWC wrestler Amy Fearnside won bronze at the Henri Deglane in France and defeated World medalist Alyssa Lampe (Team Winchester) in the semis at Senior Nationals this season.
Mensah-stock picked Xochitl Mota-Pettis (62 kg) and Abby Nette (57 kg) back-to-back in the draft. The two wrestled in the 57 kg finals at U23 Nationals; Mota-Pettis won the title. Mota-Pettis was also a Junior finalist, and wrestled Jane Valencia at a NLWC event that came down to the final seconds. Rounding out the team is Cheyenne Sisenstein at 53 kg, a replacement for Army WCAP wrestler Areana Villaescusa. Sisenstein placed second at U23 Nationals this season. She’s a multiple time college All-American (WCWA and NCWWC) including a second place finish at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships.
