Oskaloosa, Iowa–Head Women’s Wrestling Coach Tucker Black is excited to announce that Kayla Ramirez has become the first individual to sign a Letter of Intent to compete for the program in its inaugural campaign next year.

Ramirez, the daughter of Zach Deardon and Kerry Jonsson is a native of Ogden, Utah and is currently a senior at Layton HS.

“Kayla brings the energy and attitude we want to build our program around,” Black said. “We are focused on creating an environment of wrestlers who want to work hard on and off the mat, and Kayla embodies that.”

Ramirez has enjoyed great success as a prep grappler, winning two Utah Folkstyle state titles and one Freestyle state crown. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in Psychology at WPU.

“In the short time that I was on campus, I felt at home with the school and community,” Ramirez said. “I am super excited to continue my academic and athletic career at William Penn.”
