Women’s Matches at the HWC Showdown Open
The 2020 NWCA Multi-Division National Dual tournament was bonkers. And that’s the last time Precious Bell and Jordan Nelson wrestled: in a semifinal dual that Menlo College won 25-18 over Life University. Menlo went on to win the title over Campbellsville 22-19 in the final. Precious defeated Jordan 12-1, but the match lasted the entire six minutes. This was just several weeks after Precious collected a Senior National title in December, 2019.
Way back in March on the college scene, Precious was ranked No. 1 coming into the NAIA National Invitational and Jordan was ranked No. 3. The two could have met for a rematch and championship bid at the NAIA National Invitational, but the championship didn’t happen. The coronavirus pandemic shut down the event while all of the teams on site.
On November 1, Precious and Jordan will be the 6th match at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club Showdown Open.
Jordan Nelson is a senior at Life University from Kingsland, FL. Last season she placed fifth at the Missouri Valley Open (MoVal has grown to be the largest tournament for college women over the years) and placed third at WCWA Nationals in February. She’s wrestling under Head Coach Ashley Sword, and has World team member Victoria Francis on campus as assistant coach and training partner.
Jordan’s last competition ended with an individual title at the Mid-South Conference tournament in February. In an interview with Track Wrestling, Nelson told Kyle Klingman that she’s excited and hasn’t stopped training.
Meanwhile, Precious Bell (Titan Mercury WC) graduated from Menlo with a degree in Psychology and then made a cross-country move from California to Wisconsin. She’s training at Victory School of Wrestling under Kevin Black in River Falls. In 2019, Precious won the U.S. Open and Senior Nationals at 76 kg. She also faced Adeline Gray in the best of three series at Final X.
The second women’s match of the HWC card will be a senior-level spectacle at 50 Kg: Sarah Hildebrandt vs. Erin Golston.
Sarah Hildebrandt made her 50 kg domestic debut at Senior Nationals in October and absolutely dominated the field; she outscored her opponents 38-0. Hildebrandt won a silver medal at the 2018 World Championships and is a three-time World team member. Erin Golston was runner-up at the Bill Farrell International and U.S. Open in 2019.
The event is live in Coralville Iowa at the Xtream Arena and can be viewed on Track Wrestling. Subscribers to the HWC Showdown Open get free access to stream the 2020 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. The main card starts at 6 pm CT, and will be headlined by an undercard that begins at 4 pm.
